No more babies here.

Today was Freya's first day of nursery school:

She's allowed to bring her "e" but she has to leave it in her cubby. Her e is so loved it is beginning to fray at the edges and I think I will have to mend it this weekend if it's going to see Freya through to her second year of nursery school.

This morning, she said, "Mom, are you going to leave me there? At my school?"

"Yes," I said, "is that okay with you?" She's still so little, not yet three, I felt a surge of protectiveness, and if she had said no I would have hugged her tight, told her she didn't have to go.

She laughed, "Yes! It's going to be so fun!"

But of course when I dropped her off she wanted me to stay. I was so proud of myself, I stayed a few minutes, then kissed and hugged her and walked away. I knew she'd be fine, but it was still really, really hard not to look back.

I think this morning was the first time it really hit me that I don't have babies anymore, and while I've never been the kind of mother who wants little ones to stay little, I still had to stop and take a deep breath.

The girls are getting so damn big. I'm getting a little teary-eyed.

She looks adorable. I'm ready to cry myself, and she's not my baby!

I of course chickened out of sending my almost three year old to preschool - I do regret that decision some days lol!

The tiny steps we take letting our children go.

Something else they don't tell you. How those steps tug at your heart.

She looks so grown up!

I was so excited for mine to get older, but now I just want him to stop growing up so fast. ~sniff~

What a cutie. Elliot starts preschool in October. She told me I'm going to leave her there and she'll call me when she's ready to go. We'll see if that plan actually works in practice, though.
